World's Largest Hummingbird!!

I'd been wondering why the Hummingbird Feeder was being drained so quickly and then I finally saw this huge feathered friend enjoying breakfast one morning. I grabbed my camera and took this shot which is a little blurry because I took it through the screen. How extraordinary!! This is the rare, elusive Freeloading Humdinger Hummingbird and few photos exist of him. I'm lucky to have gotten this one!!

*giggle* Oh, OK, it's a Gila Woodpecker freeloading the sugar water. Guess sometimes they like to wash down the bugs. Clever bird!

Have a wonderful day! ~Elizabeth~

Freeloading Humdinger Hummingbird...I almost believed it! LOL I've seen birds other than hummers trying to drink from the feeder and they always look so funny...I've never been fast enough to get a picture, though. Great shot!! xox

It does look a little bit like a hummingbird with that long beak, and red head. I had to look twice!
I don't feed the hummingbirds, but we have quite a few who visit our windowboxes. I think they like our fuschias.

It's funny how birds that are never meant to use specific feeders are able to work out how to get the benefits of them - my parents even have woodpigeons taking nuts from the bird feeders meant for very small birds. It is funny to see huge pigeons perched on tiny little perches!

I think this might be a squirrel dressed as a flicker...they're tricky that way, you know.
